Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers for your journey across Uzbekistan

Booking

Reserving a vehicle through 4Drive Uzbekistan is straightforward. We handle the initial booking process online, connecting you with local suppliers in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and other cities. Each reservation includes a voucher with all necessary details for pickup.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking at least 7-14 days ahead, especially during peak travel months from April to October. Popular 4x4 models and SUVs suited for mountain routes often get reserved early. Last-minute bookings are possible but availability may be limited.

What information do I need to provide when booking?

You will need your full name as it appears on your driving licence, email address, pickup date and time, return date and location, and a valid payment card for the booking advance. Additional driver details can be added during the reservation process.

Will I receive confirmation immediately?

Yes. After completing your booking online, you receive an automated confirmation email within minutes. A voucher with the local supplier contact details, pickup instructions, and reservation reference follows within a few hours during business hours.

Payment and Advance

Understanding how payment works prevents confusion at pickup. You pay a booking advance online when reserving, then settle the remaining balance when collecting the vehicle. The method accepted for the balance depends on the specific vehicle you have chosen.

What payment methods do you accept online?

The booking advance is paid online by card. We do not accept cash payments online. For detailed information about accepted card types and payment processing, visit our payment methods page.

How much do I pay upfront and how much at pickup?

You pay a booking advance online to secure your reservation. The remaining balance is due when you collect the vehicle. The exact split and which payment methods the local supplier accepts for the balance are shown during booking and stated in your voucher.

Can I pay the full amount in cash at pickup?

The balance payment method depends on the vehicle. Some suppliers accept debit cards or cash for the balance, others require a credit card. This information is clearly indicated when you select a vehicle and in your voucher. The booking advance must always be paid online by card.

Deposit and Credit Card

A deposit is a separate hold placed by the local supplier at pickup. This is independent of your booking payment and serves as security against damage or traffic fines. Requirements vary by vehicle, not by class.

Do I need a credit card for every vehicle?

Not for every vehicle. Requirements depend on the specific model you choose. Some vehicles are available without any deposit hold, others require a credit card for a security hold. Check the terms for your selected vehicle during booking. If you do not have a credit card, consider increasing the limit on your debit card or choose a vehicle with no deposit requirement.

What is a deposit and when is it refunded?

A deposit is a temporary hold placed on your card by the local supplier at pickup. It is not a charge. The hold is released after you return the vehicle without damage or fines, typically within 7-14 days depending on your card issuer. The deposit amount and card type required are specified in your voucher.

Can I use a debit card instead of a credit card for the deposit?

For some vehicles, yes. Others require a credit card specifically. The requirement is listed with each vehicle. If a credit card is needed and you only have a debit card, contact your bank about raising your card limit temporarily or select a vehicle that accepts debit cards or requires no deposit.

Documents and Age

Correct documentation is essential. The local supplier checks all documents at pickup before handing over keys. Missing or incorrect papers can delay or prevent collection.

What documents do I need to bring to pickup?

You need your valid driving licence held for at least one year, passport or ID, the payment card used for the booking advance, and your voucher. An International Driving Permit is recommended for foreign licences. If you plan cross-border travel, you will need written permission arranged separately.

What is the minimum age to drive?

Minimum age is typically 21 years with at least one year of driving experience. Some vehicles, particularly larger 4x4 models and premium SUVs, require drivers to be 23 or 25 years old. Age requirements are listed with each vehicle during booking.

Can I add an additional driver?

Yes. Additional drivers can be added for a fee. Each additional driver must meet the same age and licence requirements and present their documents at pickup. This option is available during the booking process or can be arranged directly with the local supplier.

Pickup and Return

Collection and drop-off procedures vary by supplier and location. Your voucher contains exact instructions, including addresses, contact details, and any specific directions for your chosen pickup point.

Where do I collect the vehicle in Tashkent?

Pickup locations vary by supplier. Some have desks at Tashkent International Airport terminal, others operate from offices in Yunusabad or other districts, and some offer delivery to your hotel. The exact location and procedure are stated in your voucher. Airport pickup is typically at a counter after you clear arrivals.

What should I check before driving away?

Inspect the vehicle thoroughly with the supplier representative present. All existing damage, scratches, dents, and tyre condition are noted in the hire agreement you sign at pickup. Check lights, wipers, spare tyre, jack, warning triangle, and fuel level. Take photos if you wish. Confirm the return procedure and emergency contact number.

Can I return the vehicle outside business hours?

Some suppliers offer after-hours return with prior arrangement, others do not. This depends on the location and supplier. If you need to return outside standard hours, contact the supplier using the details in your voucher at least 24 hours ahead to confirm if this is possible and what procedure to follow.

Driving in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan has specific traffic rules and road conditions. Familiarizing yourself with local regulations and planning routes according to vehicle capability ensures a smooth journey.

What are the speed limits?

Urban areas typically have limits of 60-70 km/h, intercity highways 90-100 km/h, and motorways 110 km/h. Limits are posted and enforced. Right-hand traffic applies. No toll roads or vignettes are required within Uzbekistan. Always carry your documents while driving.

Can I drive to neighbouring countries?

Cross-border travel restrictions apply. Written permission for travel to neighbouring countries is required and available as a paid additional service. Not all vehicles are permitted for cross-border trips. Arrange this before pickup if you plan to cross any border. Insurance coverage may also differ outside Uzbekistan.

What kind of roads should I expect?

Main routes like the M39 from Tashkent to Samarkand are paved and well-maintained. Secondary roads to mountain areas such as Chimgan or Nuratau can be gravel or rough dirt. The Kamchik Pass route to Fergana Valley is paved but steep. Choose a 4x4 or AWD vehicle for mountain and rural routes. Confirm your planned route matches your vehicle capability.

Changes and Cancellation

Plans change. We aim to accommodate modifications when possible, but terms depend on how close you are to the pickup date and the specific supplier policies.

Can I change my booking dates?

Modifications are possible subject to availability and supplier terms. Contact us via our contact page or email [email protected] as soon as you know you need to change dates. Changes made well in advance are usually easier to accommodate than last-minute requests.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation terms vary by supplier and how far ahead you cancel. Generally, cancellations made several days before pickup may receive a partial refund, while cancellations close to pickup date may result in forfeiture of the booking advance. Specific terms are provided in your booking confirmation and voucher.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Contact the local supplier immediately using the phone number in your voucher. Most suppliers will hold your reservation if you notify them of a delay. Extended delays may require rebooking depending on availability. Always keep the supplier informed of any changes to your arrival time.
